What is a Gastric Sleeve?


A gastric sleeve is a surgical procedure that removes up to 85% of the stomach leaving it in the shape of a tube or ‘sleeve’. The procedure is performed by making small incisions to remove a section which is them closed and stapled together. Unlike other weight-loss procedures a gastric sleeve is not reversible.

The overall objective of the gastric sleeve procedure is to reduce food consumption and increase the feeling of being ‘full’ which will result in weight loss.
